    And at some point the magnetic poles will flip, throwing confusion into everyone who relies on a compass. Thank goodness for GPS, as those satellites will still be reliable.

    Back in Hawaii, directions were given as mauka (towards the mts.) and makai (towards the ocean)

    goweeder: I thought you were going to say it was like Shiprock, NM – you can’t see the famous rock a few miles away from downtown because of the smoke from Black Mesa coal plants. Phoenix wanted electricity, so they sited the generators in the region with the highest concentration of tuberculosis in the country.
