Man: That's the constellation Aries, or the ram. It's a group of stars that reminded the ancients of a male goat. Girl: I think the ancients were full of hooey. Reminds me of a bunch of stars.
Wait until you start believing in astrology. Then you’ll learn the constellations quickly enough. Don’t worry, you’ll eventually grow out of that belief too.
Start with Orion, most (but not all) cultures consider it a human, or scorpio, an obvious scorpion, then try canis major (if you are far enough south to see the whole dog) and grow from there..Farside99I don’t see astrology. Carol Burnett and I were born 3° of longitude, 1° of latitude, and single-digit hours apart, and I am trying to find any similarities beyond what any two random selected people would show. Besides, hardly Taurus, the sun was still in that long extension of Pisces and hadn’t entered Ares yet..Furthermore, a male goat is a buck (or improperly a billy), not a ram, which applies to sheep.
Keep in mind that when people back then were looking at the sky, they were able to see a LOT more stars because of lack of both air pollution and light pollution. It’s possible that the additional stars they saw did at least a bit of “fill in the blanks” for what they thought they saw.
Of course, equal possibility is that they were just high on whatever mind-altering drug was popular at that time. :P
Farside99Astrology is worthless as an introduction to astronomy. They are only concerned with the constellations in the zodiac, which they can see only twelve of the thirteen, and still consider Pluto, but not the other dwarf planets.

I’ve felt that way about constellations.

I can see the big and little dippers, but I STILL don’t see the animals and people in the stars that other people see.

It required a lot of imagination and hashish.

The ancients had better imaginations. Probably because they did not grow up playing video games.
