I don’t either. In my case I started reading the first book and thought to myself, ‘not again?’ I couldn’t tell you which stories I have read reminded me of “Game” but I just gave the book back to the owner. Real history is more interesting to me.
“Getting it” is easy – it’s the perfect blend of history lesson, Dungeons and Dragons, and porn. And it’s the best television show ever aired. (But not as good as the books, of course.)
George R.R. Martin has never interested me. I tried his novels several times.Same thing with J R R Tolkien, with the exception of The Hobbit. To each their own.
I tried out HBO, years ago. To me, it just cost too much to run a bunch of shows, most of which I was not interested in watching. I can only say that I have more of a life that is outside of just sitting and watching. I get more entertained by reading an interesting book or reading interesting news and science magazine articles.
What’s to get? You’re just watching a bunch of wickedly beautiful people screwing each other in every position imaginable, mixed in with a large dose of torture and perhaps a schtickle of mayhem sprinkled in. It’s just entertainment, not rocket science.
Steve Allen was asked, decades ago, if they “got” his program in a certain area of the country. The Ol’ Severino replied: “They receive it, but they don’t ‘get’ it.”
I’m sure you can find an address on the Internet to pay Allen’s estate for using his material.

I actually think Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time is a much better story. My wife though, is addicted to GoT.

No wonder we live in a world of idiots. What a waste of time.

Never watched it. Never wondered about it. If that’s lame, so be it. I do notice, however, that a lot of people keep wanting to talk about it.

All I’ve ever seen is the Honest Movie Trailer, which:
a) is riotously hilarious and
b) let me know seeing the series would’ve been a waste of valuable time.

I thought Game Of Thrones was a board game, not a misery series.
