Man: I start every summer with a new 100-foot cord, and every time I trim the hedge, I cut the cord. And every time I cut the cord, I take off the damaged part and put on a new plug. And now, this is what's left.
That’s why the better trimmers have orange cords. The best trimmers are battery powered with a battery pack that will fit the other tools made by the same manufacturer.
I came across something called the Dunning-Kruger Effect, which is a study of the current iteration of wilful ignorance. It’s an interesting read. I thought it was a recent manifestation, but I came across an interesting remark made on an old Perrry Mason episode. In it, one man addresses another as exhibiting “The enormous ego of the ignorant man.” At least back them we knew how to recognize it.

This year didn’t cut any water hoses with the weed eater. Didn’t do much weed eating either.

When I bought a hedge trimmer 30+ years ago, the first thing I cut was the cord. But only once.
