Remember, this is set in the 1960’s, a time when children where playing outside, not playing on online like today’s kids. My mom should know, she lived in that era!
I grew up where my mom kicked us out of the house on most days, and groups of us would wander the neighborhood. Today I was happy to host most of the kids from our neighborhood in our cul-de-sac (I hate that term though), and kids from age 3-13 were playing happily until it got dark. A good time was had by all, including some of us grown-ups who played as well.

I’ve lived them too, Dora. I remember on rainy summer days we would put swim wear on and play out in the showers!
