Red and Rover by Brian Basset for August 30, 2010

(Sigh) Just a week of summer vacation left. On one hand, I appreciate my remaining days of freedom that much more. On the other hand, it's difficult to fully enjoy things knowing they're about to come to an abrupt end. I'm too young to be strapped back into a school desk!

you are never too young for that, Red…

We started back last Wednesday. Down here in the south, we start back earlier because we like longer vacations at Christmas and Easter.

It’ll make you appreciate your summers more. Oops, an extra loop slipped into “abrupt” up there.
@AshburnStadium - I’m a transplant, now living in the Atlanta area. I actually like the schedule here because it means that finals are done before winter break (I hated trying to study over the holidays growing up). Yes, they’re in school during most of August, but honestly, it’s so blinkin hot here, they’re going to be inside anyway so might as well learn something. They get a week off in late Sept now and the entire week of Thanksgiving, which I never got, so it works out. Plus, being out for Memorial Day and June means there’s a chance to enjoy nicer weather. I’ve grown to appreciate this schedule (I’m not one to say that “it has to be done the way it was when I grew up” anyway).

Unfortunately, Red, you’re too old not to be. Savor this last week. Many of your fellow back-to-schoolers are already there.

Better than the old days when you had to lean over the desk and get strapped.

Vacation goes by too fast no matter what your age.

I just wish I still got a summer vacation. :(
My kids went back 2 weeks ago. Here in CO they start earlier to allow time for snow days. If the weather is nice they get out earlier, but if we have the typical 3-4 snow days for blizzards, then they have to continue for that extra week.

Red, I feel the same way. Except that I’m a senior in college.
