You've been staring at that glass of water for awhile now. I'm trying to decide if it's half full or half empty. That's a toughie. How long are you going to ponder such a befuddlement? Probably till enough water evaporates and it's neither.

The answer is: What occured when Red first arrived at the glass? Was it empty and he poured water into it, making it half-empty? Or was if full and he poured off half, making it half-full?I pondered this for a long time before arriving at the correct answer…..time to get a life!

Bingo….you are so right! But if someone says it is half empty, are they cynical? If someone says it is half full, are they optimistic? Decisions, decisions…..

As already noted, it is both half empty and half full. The real problem is that the glass is twice as large as it needs to be.

Since the glass is wider at the top, it is less than half full and more than half empty. Of course, glasses rarely get filled to the brim….

But the glass is full – half full of water and half full of air!
