We're thankful for the dogs in our lives because... They keep a watchful eye out for marauding hordes of alien space invaders while we're in dreamland.
We have one dog who only goes off when the garage door is opened, so any burglars better come in through the garage. The other one, who knows everything to be seen, heard or smelled around the place, I often wake to see him silently wakeful in the wee hours. If he goes off in the middle of the night like he does when the mail carrier comes I’ll never recover.
Kid Sister’s Pit Bull never barked unless there was an intruder. She only attacked when provoked (a peeping Tom lost a pant leg) and was once caught lovingly cleaning a kitten’s fur. The kitten did not approve. :-)

Does this mean that the squirrel plan for world domination is no longer of interest to Rover?

I wish my parents had allowed my dog to sleep in my room when I was a kid.
