I wonder at what time our youth transitioned from time outside to mostly inside time hooked to the phones or computers or game boys etc etc etc…?I also remember the beer can shoes. I wore them many a time on the way home from school.
My brothers and I used to do that when we went on family picnics at the old Saratoga Battlefield picnic grounds. Had forgotten about those fun ’50s days!
And even into the 60’s. Pepsi and Mountain Dew were still in steel cans into the 90’s. I still find pull-tabs in campgrounds on occasion.Next memory: Who can remember Romper-Stompers?
I liked to use empty beer cans on the frame of my bike to make it sound like a motorcycle.Never used the card trick or knew about it until later in movies.
We also used three steel cans put together with tape, the first one with a fuse hole at the side of the base and the top perforated, the second with both sides perforated and the third with the base perforated and the top cut-out. Then poured a little alchohol from above, pumped it with an empty beer can to vaporize it, and lightened a match on the fuse hole while being as close to the ground as possible. If everything went OK, it would go off with a big pop and shoot the beer can up to 60 ft on the air.Ahh! being young and stupid.

I used to do that all the time when I was a kid. The beer cans were steel then (1950’s) – don’t know if it works with aluminum cans.

We did it too, but with soda cans since beer is a no-no in ourfamily.

I did that when I was a kid only we called them pop cans. Lol. I would probably fall and break a hip if I tried that now.

Been there done that in the 60s and 70s. I recall the curl in of the lid/bottom pinching my converse high tops and my foot quite well.
