Red and Rover by Brian Basset for May 23, 2016
Transcript:
Red: Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! School's officially over in three short weeks. Rover: Are you ready for it? Red: Am I ever! It's pretty much all I've thought of since September. Rover: Mentally I know, but what about physically? Red: Once I get my first scraped knee and elbow out of the way, I'll be just fine.

Also, the summer seems very short to the kids, but that is only because “Time flies when you are having fun”.

Ahhhh, memories. I still remember my first full time job after college. I remember how much I was looking forward to summer and relaxing at a summer camp job – when I remembered. I wasn’t in college any more. My full time job would continue through the summer. No camp for me.
It kind of took the joy out of summer for me. Not completely. I am grateful for the longer days. Getting up to go to work in the dark and coming home after dark is not fun.

I still remember the first day after 8th grade. It was a warm June day and a group of my friends and I all trooped up to some destination for a morning adventure (probably a hot dog breakfast somewhere). It was warm enough that I got a good bit of color on the way back. The beginning of a wonderful summer…the last with that group, in that place. “And when the rain / beats against my windowpane / I’ll think of summer days again / and dream of you…” And I did.

Night-Gaunt49I haven’t been through Houston in ages, but I would get a laugh over the fact that the British consulate paid tropical hardship bonus for their staff there. I assume this is still the custom. “Houston weather” is a Texas term for 90-90 (degrees F and % relative humidity) or over.

I remember enjoying some national parks in early June while much of the country was still in school, but we were already finished in Texas. may be mid 1960s to mid 1970’s
