Funny indeed. The only time I remember participating in a public watermelon eating event was while my father was at Ol Miss working on his masters just before my first grade year. Do not recall any non family events here in Texas.
We used to stand on the porch and spit the seeds into the bushes. The spring before we moved, there were some water melon plants coming up next to the porch.
Meanwhile, throughout all of this watermelon/cherry spitting contest, Rover… you seem to be quite dignified as you listen to Red. Love & Hugs to Red & Rover

Cant do that any more, all i can find in the grocery stores are those bland seedless things.
And they are all round. How are you supposed to tell the male from the female when they are all the same shape?
What i wouldn’t give to find a bin of Hermiston Melons with seeds.

Thanks for the flashback! My family had watermellon seed spitting contests. We used the lines in the sidewalk to help gauge distance.
