We had a German Shepherd that LOVED to play fetch. When she got tired, she would go get the stick, then lay down with it where it landed. When she was ready to go again, she would bring the stick back to us. :o) I loved that dog. She was so smart and easy to train.

We had a Scottie that would walk to beach with us, but would sit until we returned from our walk. She knew we were coming back.

My just stop chasing when they get tired of it, or they go get it and then refuse to return it.
