We went to my sister’s for Christmas dinner. After opening the presents, my niece’s dachshund puppy got several squeaky toys – 5 of which were small balls just right for her puppy size. Plus larger balls and a squid squeaky toy. We entertained ourselves (and the puppy) by throwing the balls for her to fetch. Over and over again. Throwing several at once just about made her split into pieces, trying to go after them all at once. We even had a game of dog ball juggling (drop a ball and she’d grab it, drop another ball and she would let go of the first ball to grab the next ball while we scooped up the ball she dropped). We got to the point where we could dog ball juggle 4 balls. We laughed ourselves silly. :o) Wonderful day.

Clearly evident that I am in the wrong business. I my next life I should be a dog toy maker. Rugby has already destroyed his Xmas present. We keep buying the same toy over and over and over. Guess what, we don’t give a hoot. The happiness of your dog/dogs is PRICELESS.

Poor Rover. It looks as though he will be visiting the vet again. I hope that he doesn’t have to queue up with cats again as he complained about doing in an earlier comic strip – it was either early this year or one from last year.

LOL! Rover goes through his toys faster than Red or most other kids!

My previous dog was a Golden Retriever who loved stuffed toys, never chewed them up, and even carried one on his walks. My current dog is a Lab who chews everything. When he was six months old he chewed on a small rock and spent three days at the vet (thankfully, though, no surgery). And no toy is safe around Newton, whether it’s a child’s plastic toy (he has eaten pieces of those), a rope tug toy (he shreds those quickly), or any toy with a squeaker—once he chewed a toy so aggressively to get to the squeaker that he broke a tooth and had to have oral surgery! Needless to say, any time with his toys, even those advertised as “indestructible,” is monitored closely!

Hope Rover can safely pass the squeaker & that it doesn’t end up stuck round his trachea. He doesn’t appear to be in stress, though…

When the plush toys get ragged, my SIL gives them a squeak-ectomy. That’s easier and cheaper than real dog surgery. You can now buy sqeak toys where the squeaker produces sound so high most humans can’t hear them but the dog can.

My parents’ cat got a head start on her presents. Chewed right through to the catnip and was out of her gourd for hours.
