Last Sunday in Red and Rover, Red threw a stick, it stuck into earth and Rover made pee on it. Today I made a walk, it was a very bad path. I went this path first time and didn’t know, how it will go on. It was wet weather too and in the middle of the path, it slipped down, I couldn’t reach the farther way and slipped down and down. Just in last moment I saw a stick in the earth, it was solid enough, it hold my weight, I could grope with my feet, until I reached the second part of the way and I could go on!! I had to remember the stick in Red and Rover and thanked God, that I had found this stick!!
When my son had a paper route, some people were stingy with tips even when he put their papers exactly where they wanted them. Others were generous—and it was usually the people with less money who were!
I used to fold the paper in a triangle shape and throw it. Served the Evening Star out of D.C. I had my route for 9 years. You’d be surprised at how many people wouldn’t want to pay for their paper every month.
I finally stopped the paper delivery. It was getting too expensive and not showing up half the time. So I just read the digital version but they’re cutting features out of that. Why do I bother?
When I had a paper route, every customer had a specific place where the paper HAD to go. Otherwise I got cussed. Weird how the pickiest people were the least likely to pay their bill on time.
Now around here all newspapers are delivered by cars driving just at dawn on the wrong side of the street (probably half the time, right?) and when the papers hit the concrete driveways, it sounds like a bullet. My dog has been a bit skittish when one is thrown near us, but she is learning no harm has yet come. I am more worried about these half-asleep drivers on the wrong side of the street running us over than being hit with a newspaper. No sidewalks here. We walk generally just at dawn.
I remember my brother bringing home a puppy is his paper “bag” on the handlebars of his bicycle in the mid-60’s. That pup was dearly loved as our family dog.
I quit both local papers many years ago. they were too expensive and, frankly, didn’t have that much worth reading. I see internet headlines, and most of that is either come a on for insurance companies, or something completely different. Then, when you do find and start reading something of interest, and all of a sudden, if you want to read more, you have to buy their service. Sorry folks. I just don’t give a rip any longer. At my age, it doesn’t make a difference at all.

My paper person does a really cool double bounce into the carport where it lands under my car. 10 extra points if I need a rake to get it.

A person can get local news on their t.v.s and World News. Then there’s Yahoo news, Google news, and many other browser news one can read.

Despite all the free news feeds, I subscribe to the New York Times online. I think it’s worth it.

Red is no Henry Huggins. (A Beverly Cleary character who delivered newspapers in the Glenwood district of Portland, OR.)
