Ah, this brings back some fond memories. We had this rock formation in our woods where we grew up that became the bridge of the Enterprise. Even had a raised area in the center that was the captain’s chair and then another in front of that that became the helm. Spent many hours playing Star Trek. Imagination today just ain’t what it used to be.
Today’s strip is copyrighted 2016. I remembered some recent strips as repeats from three years ago but this one is six years old. It’s still very good of course.
I always thought from Red’s cuffed dungarees and their treeless suburban neighborhood that this strip was set firmly in the 1950’s. Guess I’m off by more than a decade.
I remember the premier of Star Trek. I was just a bit older than Red. When the Enterprise came on in the opening credits it was just such a stunning change from any earlier spaceship. Thanks, Lucille Ball, for bringing the adventure to our tv screens!

It should be noted that today’s cartoon has set a world record for the most expensive special effects in a daily strip.

It’s good that most of the glitter is outside. But that stuff is insidious and will soon contaminate the house.

Transporter effect.

In the 1960s it was less expensive to make a transporter effect than it was to make one of a shuttlecraft to the planet’s surface.
