noses got mucus to protect them

Sunblock didn’t exist back in the 60s, only useless ointments like Coppertone.

That’s why it’s black instead of pink.

Red has a great mom! Now moving on Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!

I get the feeling this is ‘pool’ week!

A dog’s nose can get sunburned.

Red being light skin, will burn easily!

I remember my Mom mixing up mineral oil and iodine for her ‘tanning’ and sun protection. Ahh, the good old days…

My sun block was a maple tree.

We have a dog who loves to expose his belly to the sun. He hasn’t stayed out long enough to get burnt, but since he has become very freckled, I am guessing it is possible.

Dogs have a high rate of skin cancer, especially short-haired dogs… I just read an article by Dr Karen Becker a Holistic Vet about skin cancer in dogs (Mast Cell Tumors) They are common in Labs, Golden Retrievers, Beagles, Cockers and a few other breeds. They are often on legs or between toes, and can be found on the trunk areas also, which is harder to find in their fur. Note that the food one feeds their dogs is a huge factor… Foods using GMO ingredients, especially corn and wheat, have the greatest chance of being a cancer cause. Cancer rates have risen more rapidly in dogs and cats than in humans. Food is the main cause of this.

Rover reminds me of our Great Pyrenees puppy eating the ice out of her water bowl last week. She had her entire muzzle buried in the bowl trying to eat all of the ice cubes at once. She created a wonderful, but hilarious mess!
