When I was in my last year at Junior School, my teacher started out as Miss Bolton and later became Mrs Webb. She did play us a recording of Bob Newhart’s famous monologue “The Driving Instructor, or Mrs Webb’s Driving Lesson”. I thought that she was adding the alternative title as a joke about herself but found, of course, that the woman that the driving instructor was addressing really was called Mrs Webb as my teacher was now called.
I remember that Miss Bolton/Mrs Webb had some Snoopy posters up in the classroom. One showed a grumpy looking Snoopy in tennis clothes dragging his racket behind him and thinking, “It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose – until you lose!” Another poster showed a dazed and scratched Snoopy thinking, “Never trust a smiling cat!”
It takes a while to get used to calling a teacher by a different name. I remember around 8th grade Miss Manning turned into Mrs. Potter and we had to correct ourselves every time we spoke to her.
When I was a kid, our telephone was on the wall in the kitchen. I don’t remember the color of that phone but I’m thinking it was probably white—although avocado and “harvest gold” were popular colors for appliances back then, my mother had a pink stove and refrigerator!
Hey, Miss Pyle was my chemistry teacher! We all loved her. Such a cool teacher who taught hard concepts with humor so they were easy to understand. She was a former nun but still kept her vows. Apparently her sect got in trouble for their radical ideas for women’s rights which society was fighting for back then. We need more like her now. RIP, Miss Pyle!

I like this Ruby and Red setup. Reminds me of my own little redheaded girlfriend I had in 4th Grade.

I remember liking my first girl in freshman high school. I saw her but she did not care for me. Oh well that’s high school..
