richard's poor almanac august by richard thompson did you know that, besides tourists, there are only 12 people in town right now? it's august & everybody's gone! here are a few things to do until they return. the nationals are short a few players. call 'em up & see if you can help out 380 1534 tour groups are wandering around with no tour guide! maybe you could take them in hand & give them a "personal tour" of dc. teen: on this park bench, in 1994, my girl-friend dumped me for that guy sean. man: sucks, man. woman: may we take flash photos? tidy things up a bit! dust the smithsonian, power wash the grease stains off of k street, fluff the pillows at the supreme court, vacuu, the metro! think how nice it'll look when everybody gets back! lady: look at this junk! legal briefs, old speeches, position papers! place is a pigsty.

August is a month past. However, if—as threatened—funding is not approved, in a few days the federal government will shutdown, the second time this year. Here ’round DC and elsewhere throughout the USA these ideas remain applicable. Thanks again, Richard Thompson! We miss you.

Everybody’s back in school. Be a ride operator at the big theme parks so the adults get a turn and the concession stands can sell beer.
