Ripley's Believe It or Not Man: GULP! One of the most essential parts of the human digestive system isn't even human at all - it is the mass quantities of beneficial bacteria that live in our guts! Icky... but true! More than 10,000 different species of microorganisms live in and on the human body - many of them beneficial to a person's health! Uh... um... are these yours?! Makayla Harrell and Darin Renaud of Caledonia, Wis., USA -- were surprised to find human organs carefully preserved in jars inside their garage! Police discovered they had been part of a surgeon's collection dating back to 1901.

Keep the brains away from Dr Frankenstein……(pronounced Fronk-en-steen, of course.)

Found out about the bacteria the hard way, after medicine killed it all. Won’t gain weight – food goes in one end and straight out the other. Hard to believe you can die from ‘lack’ of bacteria.

Absolutely – and that makes me wonder if there might also be beneficial parasites that belong in the body.

A similar body parts case in Pensacola, FL this week when a local storage unit went up for auction. The winning bidder got a huge surprise. Body parts from over 100 people kept by a former assistant medical examiner & he was arrested.

Seems like 2 out of 3 of today’s odd facts are about the same.

As I recall, there are ten parasite cells for every human cell in the body. Makes me wonder how deflated we’d look without them.

I recall reading of a fecal transplant done to restore intestinal bacteria.

The only food we can absorb directly into our bodies is the food that is already dissolved in water. Most of what we absorb as nutrients has already been excreted by the microorganisms inside us.

What? No zombie comments? I can’t believe, with all the comments about brains, that there was no mention of zombies!
