It costs about $40,000 to send a single pound of anything to the moon! Osedax worms ooze in acidic slime to devour and tunnel through the skeletons of dead animals on the sea floor! Paleontologists have discovered 9 different pairs of 47 million-year-old turtles in Messel Pit near Darmstadt, Germany- each of them fossilized together in the process of mating!

At least the turtles died happy

The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out, they squirt acidic slime on your snout…

I knew turtles were slow, but that is ridiculous.

If you wanted to send a single one-pound package to the moon, it would cost you a lot more than $40,000. That amount is figured as part of the cost of transport that includes the weight of the capsule, lander (if used), crew (if any), ground staff and the rest of the launch vehicle. If you had to buy the rocket or construct it from the ground up, the price would be more in the tens of millions at least. In 1969, the esitmated cost of launching a Saturn V rocket was $431,000,000.00. In 2010 dollars (adjusted for inflation), that’s $2,534,000,000.00.

What does Ralph Kramden say to that?

And the Doctor told me that I was healthy enough to have sex.
I think that he might be trying to kill me.

Isn’t that odd about the turtles? There must have been a cataclysmic event that buried them all at the same time obviously during mating season.

Not many creatures can still mate at 47 million years old. I’ll be lucky to at half that age!

Actually, the $40k/lb is probably quite obsolete. Now that SpaceX is on the case, they are talking about $1k/lb to LEO with the Falcon lifters. LEO is about 70% of deltaV required for trans lunar injection, I don’t expect that next 30% to cost almost 40x the first 70%.

A male turtle has a dent under it’s tail. It’s so he doesn’t slide off the female’s shell when making love.

God created the universe and all there is in it about 6000 years ago. How could those fossils be that old?
Puddleglum2 about 12 years ago
The worldwide flood of Noah’s time accounts for those fossils!
