Ripley's Believe It or Not! Until the 1960s ambulance services in the United States were largely provided by funeral homes! AAAHHH!! Scorpion farmer Ismail Jasim Mohammed, from Samarra, Iraq, is addicted to eating live scorpions, and has been eating them daily for the last 15 years! Michael Jackson held a United States patent for the boots that enabled him to lean at 45 degrees in the video Smooth Criminal.

That 1960s ambulance looks kind of like the 1980s Ghostbusters’ car.

Actually they provided ambulance service into the 70s in many areas. I worked part time for a funeral home for a short time cleaning the hearses in 1975.

I think that in rural areas in Puerto Rico the ambulance service is still provided by funeral homes.

In my part of the country, the ambulance/funeral service went together until the owners divorced back in the 90’s and she got the ambulance part!

“Defiantly the king of pop” sounds as though he was very adamant about that title and would get very offended at anyone who denied it. I definitely don’t think that was the case.

My Grand Farther (mother’s father) was taken to the hospital for the last time, and then taken to the cemetery in the same vehicle..\\//_

Back in the 1950s one of my college buddies bought a used black hearse/ambulance vehicle which was a great place to change in when we went SCUBA diving. It had a flip over sign on the dashboard with “AMBULANCE” on one side and “FUNERAL COACH” on the other, plus ambulance lights and a siren. Toll collectors usually waved (waived) us through free. Once we took a rubber glove and slammed the rear door on it so the finger and half the palm were hanging down. Thanks for the mammaries.

Wow, nobody has anything to say about the scorpion addiction? I admit that “Rock You Like a Hurricane” is catchy, but…

In our area, one called Curry Funeral Home (Mendon, Ill.) if one needed an ambulance up until about 1970. And, at one time also if you wanted to talk to Santa Claus!WGN-tv Chicago once had a Talk to Santa hotline.WGN had a 312 area code. Central Illinois has 217.So, if a kid used the 217 code, the same number got them Curry Funeral Home!“Waaaa – Santa’s dead!”Why were funeral coaches doubling as ambulances?Only vehicles in most areas that could handle a recling body.
