“King George I of England had English as a …fourth language….” I wonder what was the third language.

Richard The Lionheart almost always spoke French, and when he wasn’t off on Crusade, he spent most of his time in France

This makes it sound like George I was king from 1660, which was his birth year. Charles II became king in 1660, returning from exile in France when the monarchy was restored. He, too, spoke French fluently, having spent over 10 years there.

The English must have been rather accustomed to multi-lingual monarchs.
