Who? David Rice Atchison was president of the United States for exactly one day- March 4, 1849. A 1994 NBA San Antonio Spurs game was delayed when fireworks set off the sprinklers, showering the fans with 12,000 gallons of water! China's Dai Yun, a sculptor at the Shenzhen Public Art Center, built a proportionately accurate Mercedes-Benz with bricks.

David Atchison described his “presidency” (his claim has been dismissed for multiple reasons) as “The honestest administration this country ever had”.

Atchison was President for that only day because Zachary Taylor didn’t want to be sworn in Sunday.

And Atchison claimed he slept most of that day. Which automatically makes him one of the best presidents we ever had. He never declared war on any country, nor did he add to the deficit with unnecessary programs, nor did he raise taxes. Better than most of his breed…

While some may claim that Taylor wasn’t president because he wasn’t sworn in, that would also leave Atchison out, because he wasn’t sworn in as president either. Also his term as President Pro Tempore ended on same day as President Polks, and he wasn’t sworn in for another term until the next day. So, sorry Ripley messed up with that. Atchison might have claimed that he was President for a Day, but it ain’t so.

Ripley’s urban legends. The Atchison thing has been refuted for a long time. Zachary Taylor did not want to be sworn in on the “sabbath” so he waited until Monday. There is nothing that says that a president has to be sworn in to make him president. Taylor became president before being sworn in. And just in case that is too confusing, remember that nobody swore in Atchison either.

Besides, Atchison’s term as “President Pro Tem of the Senate” expired at the same time as Polk’s term as president, so he had no claim to the presidency anyway.

I hear “Dai Yun” to the tune of Ke$ha’s “Die Young.”

I’m just dying of laughter at the fireworks setting off the sprinklers! Way to rain on the fans’ parade! I know I’m not very sporting, but it just cracked me up (I don’t like fireworks, in case that isn’t obvious).

Not surprise to hear about anything that come out of China. When you have a population of 1.36 Billion souls, China has room for just about every eccentric.
