I’ve read that arsenic is an essential trace element – with emphasis on trace. (Can not say same for lead or mercury) In the mid-west there used to be a problem with goiters. The problem was traced to a lack of iodine, which is why we now have iodized salt. (problem not noted on coast due to more ocean fish in diets)

In small quantities, arsenic is not dangerous and in the long run, one becomes accustomed and can withstand large quantities

Goiter is a large lump in the throat, common up to about 1950 but rarely seen today. Wonder if too much iodine would be as harmful as excess arsenic?
