How do cornflakes have genes? I didn’t realize cornflakes were an entity. Has anyone ever seen a nest of them or something? Do they mean CORN has more genes?

What are the reasons why corn has more genes than what humans do? What does this discovery imply?

It means the number of genes you have has little correlation with most measures of complexity, especially in eukaryotes.

The likely reason for this observation is pretty simple: flowering plants have undergone several whole genome duplications, which at times, were very important for their evolutionary success.
