For salt (if your body weight is 170 lbs), that’s 2.1 lbs, or 1.3 boxes. I think it would gross you out before it killed you!

So it takes less MSG to kill you than salt. Not sure why that’s worthy of this comic. If it was less, then I could see it being interesting, but this is like saying it takes way more salt to kill you than hemlock, or some such. Uhm, duh!

You can all keep eating, MSG is not going to kill you. That’s another Ripley’s misinterpretation of facts. Probably from times when MSG was the “evil.” It was after WWII and someone found out that food in the USA contained MSG, Aji-No-Moto, a Japanese creation. Just to begin, Sodium Chloride is lethal, that much is true. The lethal dosage is about 12 grams per Kilo of body weight. An average 170 pounds person has to eat 2 pounds of table salt, pretty much impossible to do. If Ripley’s is right, the same person has to eat two whole shakers of Aji-No-Moto, still pretty hard to do. But it’s not true. I couldn’t find dosage information of MSG for a human, but to compare, a dosage for a mouse is 16 grams per Kilo. Table salt dosage for a mouse is 3 grams per Kilo. So it’s actually 5 times less lethal than table salt, at least for a mouse… Trust me. Trump is president, Kim Chun Chun has nukes, Putin is crazier every day… you’re not going to die because of MSG… :D

From Wikipedia. "The median lethal dose (LD50) is between 15 and 18 g/kg body weight in rats and mice, respectively, five times the LD50 of sodium chloride (3 g/kg in rats). " So if I’m reading it right, Ripley’s got it backwards.

And thus began the tradition of painting all fire hydrants gold, or yellow if you are out of gold paint!
