It has been theorized by scientists and researchers that Lake Nyos’ release of deadly gas is an example of how one of the deadly plagues that Moses supposedly inflicted on Egypt back in the day came to be realized.
1984-Bhopal India-Union Carbide-A chemical reaction causing a build up of Carbon Dioxide-killing 3800 people and effect medically on many others. Very tragic lest we forget.
Something else people believe that I think it’s a big myth is, they believe cats clean themselves by licking themselves. I think, Cats scratch themselves that way, they have sharp, coarse tongues, So They scratch themselves on the areas where their back paws can’t reach.
We were visiting friends when suddenly we heard a pack of coyotes start to howl. My friend said, “Oh, it’s five fifteen already.” The coyotes can tell time? No, there was a railroad crossing beyond where the coyote pack lived. When the train blew the whistle, the pack howled. The train was too far away for us to hear, but we could hear the coyotes.
I usually associate “silent but deadly” with another socially un-acceptable situation, which causes fellow companions, such as passengers in an elevator car, great annoyance and displeasure.
Interesting story; In 1893 Wigan, England, a rough and tumble coal mining town, women were allowed work sorting coal, above ground. One day a woman showed up for work wearing pants. She was quickly arrested, but not before someone took her picture. (photo). “Racy” postcards soon circulated around town showing the woman wearing pants. The miner’s wives were outraged, there was wild talk , finally the Mayor had to step in. All was well after the “hussy” was forced to wear a dress over her pants.
I dislike the item about Lake Nyos being slugged as ‘Silent but Deadly’. That feels inappropriately silly for an event that killed so many people and animals.
I have one more problem. Who is it that professes wolves don’t howl at the moon? HOW DO THEY KNOW? Do they have a direct line to the Wolf Gods? Are they 60% wolves themselves? Is Hokey Wolf and Huckleberry Hound giving them inside information? Please.
“Across America by Motor-Cycle” (free from project gutenberg) is the story of a WWI pilot who, arriving back in America in June 1919, spent the next two months driving his brand-new Henderson motorcycle from New York to San Francisco. An amazing tale considering roads in those days weren’t much better than goat paths.
Maybe wolves don’t howl at the moon, but coyotes do. I actually observed one doing so right outside my bedroom window one summer night. There was a large pile of dirt on the lot next to us where a new house was going to be built. I looked out and there was a coyote on top of the pile of dirt singing his or her heart out. I yelled at it whereupon it went down the other side, turned around and came back up where it set to howling at the moon again.

Riddle:
What sits in the desert, howls at the moon, and is filled with cement?
I’ll come back with the answer if no one gets it.
Some time.

Can you imagine those two riding their motorcycles wearing dresses? Then they’d get stopped for indecent exposure!!!

I know there are a lot of stupid laws on the books, but there was a time when they actually bothered to ENFORCE “women aren’t allowed to wear pants?”

That’s not true. I mooned some wolves once and they not only howled, but laughed hysterically…
