(googling “telephone book”) .. oh.. yeah.. I once read one from cover to cover, thus my OCD diagnosis and subsequent incarceration at the Melody Melody Prison in… oh, wait.. it was Sing Sing Prison. I’m fine now. ~ Thomas Edisonski, dork

May the stored be with you as they are with Dee, and gesundheit.

It was also a homing pigeon and wound up back in its previous owner’s coop.

Can you imagine a book that lists EVERYONE’s name, address and phone number? And it is to be given out free to every household and business? The secrecy police would have none of that today!

It’s interesting to me that Ripley’s mentions the first telephone book to a generation that may not know what a telephone book is.

The first telephone book only had names, no numbers.

“He could fly fast through the air, alright, A pigeon of great might, Armando!”

That’s an ABBA song, if I remember correctly?

Racing Pigeons are a real thing? I thought it was just an Andy Capp thing. Imagining Capp first selling the bird to Joel for 40 quid for horse gambling.

Would that be more of a phone sheet rather than a phone book?

And in the era of that first phone book, “Raymond the First” knew every name, address, and phone number.

Yes it was a lot to pay for a bird. But I had a recipe for Cornish game hen and couldn’t find any at the store so I bought Armando. He was delicious.
