About 90% of plastic put into recycle bins eventually winds up in a landfill. The technology to sort and recycle all the different types of plastic is too expensive for most locales. Eventually we will have a standard plastic that will break down into reusable chemicals when a solvent is added. It’s going to be a while, though.
