It’s nice to see people carrying food IN.

Heard a woman on the radio yesterday, saying that it would be more efficient to take the money spent buying food at retail, and giving it to the food bank so they can buy from the FDA. Maybe we should donate money and time instead of food and time.

My church collects food twice a year. Once during this time and once mid summer when many others forgot about them. Don’t forget they need help year round

At the college I work at, we collect food to give to the food bank, and we already have a lot in our back room. The food is either donated or brought in to pay off library fines, but in the end it’s worth it, ’cause we always end up with A LOT of food to give the food bank.

A church I went to has people bring in bags of food on the 1st Sunday of EVERY month, and also right before Easter, Thanksgivin, and Christmas. It then gives out food to needy people who show up asking for food.

My church has a food pantry and recently we had a drive to help stock it. I teach 1st and 2nd grade so one Sunday we walked a block to the store and bought some things to bring back. The kids enjoyed choosing what to buy, but did gripe a bit about having to carry it back. We were talking about Joseph and the famine so it fit the lesson well.

On my birthday (in March) I pack up all the canned goods from my earthquake supplies (in CA that’s a goodly amount) and deliver them to Second Harvest. Then I replace with fresh cans (is that an oxymoron?) and water. I also buy/donate a dozen cans of baby formula occasionally, although my kids have kids.

The Annual Christmas Parade is the big draw for food donations. There’s usually a big push in July – the local sports teams will have a Food Bank night at least once during their playing season. It would help if every time we had a parade, the Food Bank truck was there.
