When I was around 6-7 me and some friends put up a tire swing. I was elected to try it out. Yep, the rope broke and I ended up smacking my head on the sidewalk. OUCH!

When I was 7 we moved to a house with a big backyard. There were 2 trees; one was cut in “half”, with the top half connected across both trees, and two swings hanging from it (not a selling point, but definitely got MY vote). When one of the board seats of a swing broke, my dad replaced it with a tire. Both trees are long gone now, but I still have my memories.

Yes, and after those tires age some years, that black rubber starts rubbing off onto the clothes. Mom, of course, is the first to notice this and the first to demand another used tire replacement [;-)

I fondly remember the swings my grandpa put in the big trees in his front yard, him grabbing the rope and swinging on them before ever letting us girls on it. I also remember how he got the rope over the branches. He had an old Indian hammer rock that he’d tie the rope around, throw the rock over the branch and the start to a new adventure began. We also used this as a branch clearer every spring,

Last week they had 3 feet of snow, now today they have a fully leafed out tree? I live in the South and we don’t even have leaves on the trees yet.

I have one in the back yard, I can not fit in it any longer, but I do test it as best as I can for the kids.

Does anyone remember bag swings? Take a 50 pound burlap feed bag, fill with old rags, and straddle to swing. Even if you jump out, you won’t get hurt from it hitting you..Sharon Hayes: We pass some trees with spectacular blooms. Yesterday, nothing; today full bloom, but no leaves on anything, anywhere around here.
