When I was in second grade—and dinosaurs still roamed the earth—I won the school wide hula hoop contest. We all started at the same time. If your hoop dropped to the ground, you were out. The last one still going at the end would be the winner. My prize was a box of Tootsie Pops! Suddenly everybody wanted to be my friend. I suppose that same contest today would present everybody with a certificate of participation and nobody would get any candy out of it.

As I remember hula hoops from my youth, this wouldn’t work. Unless she’s just standing there, not moving.

Childhood is full of such fun. I wonder why we grow up.
