Maybe Anton was one of the three curious fox pups that stuck their heads out of the tall grass as I was canoeing by. Appearing bing, bing, bong, like the NBC tones, they are an image stored forever in my memory.
My first and only sighting of a fox in the wild was when it came to my campsite before daybreak (UP Michigan) to snitch the empty yogurt container from the picnic table, while I was packing to go home. It was only a shadowy figure and ran off, but a bit later, I felt I was being watched. I aimed my flashlight toward the left front tire and gasped, “You’re a (red) fox!” It sat watching as I continued loading the trunk and accepted the deli ham I tossed into the fire pit. Later, someone told me it had a den and lived in the campground.
Being Merlin The Magician was a fox and being you see TWO of them, my guess is those two are doing ABRACADABRA like nobody else can do. Unconditional love goes a very long way.
The foxes in my neighborhood are the same coyote color as the rest of the mammals. If you see one you are lost in the desert, good luck driving through the soft sand to get back to something that may once have resembled a road.

We had foxes living in a culvert under our driveway. Cute watching the little ones play.
