Why is it when you have to get up earlier than normal, you keep checking the clock and fall asleep only an hour before getting up?

I cover mine by leaning an unopened Covid-19 test against its face. Not too big, not too small, flat so it doesn’t slide down and fall on the floor, and finally useful even though by now it’s long expired.

I just had one of those nights. Fortunately, I fell back asleep within an hour.

This is why you should not have a light-up digital clock in your bedroom.

My wife and I each have our own clocks. So, this would not be a solution.

My worst nightmare was waking up after I had been dreaming that I wasn’t sleeping. In my dream, I was staring at my clock radio watching the time. When I woke up the clock was offset by a few inches and had a different later time. I was working rotating 12-hour shifts at the time. I hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in months.

Placing it under the bed is ideal.

We used to just have my clock – for the first 40 something years. Last year husband decided he needed to have a clock also – even though mine is easily visible from his side of the bed and he bought one. He has his alarm set to go off an hour after mine (I set it early for us and go back to sleep when I don’t really need to get up at any specific time – which is better than 99% of the time lately) – he is clock radio and has it set on an all talk station and it starts low and gets louder. I keep panicking and thinking someone is talking on our answering machine (rare to ever get ever call – still rarer to get a call that is not spam).

We are looking for a new clock for me as I have trouble setting the alarm and have to keep traveling around the clock until I manage to end it on the correct time. I am looking for what seems to make sense to me – a clock which is set, as it’s alarm also is, by pushing buttons from 0 to 9 to set it – not having to stand with two fingers – each on a different button – and hope one gets their fingers off the buttons at the right split second to set the time for the alarm (or for the clock itself). He actually found one somewhere – but it was not 24 hour clock (so that I don’t keep jumping out of bed to check that I set it on the right 10:00 to wake up) and/or it is not digital and/or the digits are too small to be read from bed without my eyeglasses.

My clock is also magic. For some reason I always seem to be in the bedroom when the clock passes the time which matches the address of my family’s house and notice same – seems to be an odd quirk of time.

This is why I do not have visible clocks.
