While I’m at it, I better do some research on repetitive motion injuries.

Years ago I was having a panic attack (not unusual for me) but this one felt a little bit different than the ones before so I Google’d my symptoms and as I’m reading through the various scary-sounding medical events I was possibly having, my symptoms got worse and I thought for sure I was dying. I was close to crying out of fear and pain, short of breath, chest pains, feeling light headed and it got worse the more I read. I felt myself spiraling down into some sort of nightmare abyss. I finally got it together enough to peel myself off the computer and lie down where I eventually fell asleep (mostly out of exhaustion than anything else).

It wasn’t until the next day, under a calmer, smarter head that I determined that I was in fact having a “normal” panic attack made much worse by scaring myself to near death reading that I was either dying of a heart attack, cancer, pulmonary embolism, or a myriad of other deadly things that friendly and helpful Google was throwing at me.

Lesson to be learned? Don’t research your symptoms online if you’re having what you think is an emergency. It will eff you up! Thanks to Google for this life lesson in our brave, new world.
