Without a usable virtual reality at least as realistic as dreaming, nobody will ever buy this option.Develop a direct neural interface, though, which has the ability to provide unlimited experience without consequence and this could become the norm, with remote servitors, controlled by tele-presence, being used to maintain the body farms where people live, and do all other useful work.

Instill into human genes the photosynthesizing ability of chlorophyll. It would initially be a backup system, but then increasing numbers would opt for it, maybe too many numbers altogether. No doubt human civilization would change greatly, perhaps operate at a less frenetic pace. We would be more greatly aware of our dependence on the Sun.
