If the bear and the horse are racing into the woods, my bet’s on the bear.

Sounds like a job for Mythbusters, but PETA would be upset if the bear were chasing the horse.

Had the experience of the bear (grizzly) closing on the horse (I was riding), fortunately while bears are faster than horses on a short sprint, the horse lasts longer, which is why they may last longer. (Or it could be the bear was satisfied with the saddlebag he snatched away?)

Do both bears and horses do something in the woods?

    Together?

if I bet on a horse in the third race…it is a sure bet he will still be running in the fourth race

Yes they can, and they can climb better ( black bears anyhow), swim better, and cause a whole lot of problems if they catch you.
