In England it would be Miles but the emphasis is on the second L.

I love metric. 99.7 kilos sound a lot lighter than 220 lbs. !

Art Buchwald deserves a hat tip. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/23/AR2005112302056.html

Nabuquduriuzhur said: “He seems to end up in the USMC every summer.”-That’s when Jeff MacNelly did this comic. Back in 1986, Skyler accepted what he mistakenly believed to be a summer job with the “United States Marine Corporation”, only to find himself at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Paris Island (SC) for the summer, during which time his descriptions of events in his letters home to Uncle Cosmo composed a predominance of the strips.

Gosh I miss Art Buchwald. The story of the Jour de Merci Donnant was written by him in 1952 in the Paris based International Herald Tribune for whom he worked at the time.I first came across it in 1973, the year I moved to Paris, and incidentally discovered the IHT. Looked forward to it every Thanksgiving. RIP Art.

Not just Europe, Skyler. Most of the world is metric, a much more sensible system. I wish we would shift to it completely, instead of just sneaking in a few things like liter bottles.
