    Uhhhhh, birds don’t have umbilical cords, or placentas, either. Have always been cordless.

    I didn’t pass out, but I nearly sprained my wrist cutting that sucker! It was like cutting stainless steel cable with a child’s blunt nose scissors!

    Till something better comes along, I must assume that without the cord, the baby would have no way to grow, get nourishment or anything. I had 3 and my husband would have croaked if asked to cut it! No way! I hope they can just continue, in the meantime, finding good uses for the umbilical blood.
