As amusing as this may be, the truth is most theaters get nothing from ticket sales the first two weeks. Concessions are their bread and butter (which is artificially flavored).
The concessions are where most theaters makes their profit. It isn’t from showing the movies. The ticket prices don’t always cover the cost the theatre pays to have the films.
Nevertheless, our local theatre sells candy for one dollar apiece.
Even down here in Ecuador, the ticket prices for a first run movie at the multiplex cinema is relatively cheap ( About $2.50 – $4.00 for Senior Citizens ) but the concession prices rival those in the States – outrageous !
We make our own popcorn at home, put it in a big ziplock bag and stick it in my wife’s purse, along with a bottle of water.

I didn’t mind spending 20 bucks on a Coke and a popcorn, it was the 10 dollar service fee, that ticked me off!

You know the concessions are expensive if the theater is showing “Dune” and the cosplayers are wearing functioning stillsuits.

Wait 6 months, watch movie at home on Vudu or Fandango. Make your own popcorn. Spend less than $10 in total and not go deaf.
