I’ve forgotten all the languages I speak, but to name a few, I speak English, Canadian, Australian, New Zealandese, Belizian, Bahaman, Jamaican, Singaporean, Zambian, and of course, American.
Since very few people that you are likely to come into contact with in any city on earth don’t speak American, and it is the language used in commerce, international communications, etc there is no compelling reason for Americans to learn another language unless they plan to go on the “Amazing Race”. And, then you don’t know which language you should have learned until it’s too late.

A person who speaks several languages is called a polyglot.
A person who speaks two languages is bi-lingual
And a person who only speaks one language is called an American !
