I used to think it was credibility but no one believes that anymore.

Nice to see the old jokes still being recycled. So much easier than coming up with new ones.

(This one’s often variously attributed to George Burns, Grouch Marx et al., but the actual first documented occurence seems to be Celeste Holm on a TV panel interview in 1962, when she attributed it to “an actor” she’d worked with. Although in my book she was quite capable of having coined it herself.)

For an insincere politician, Belfrey spends a lot of real time getting drunk with ordinary people.

I first heard that line about faking sincerity in the mid 1960’s from a young actor quoting a director. Most likely the line was old even then.

So is being sincere or is he faking it? It’s like the ’I’m not a liar’ puzzle.

What can you say, old white guys have an easy time getting old white guys to vote for them.

A typical politician in today’s World. And very sad too.
