When I was younger, cash was everything. I regularly dropped off pocket change from all the paper transactions. Then, I got my first credit card, the same one I use today. Then, cash was practically no more. I have to force myself to keep quarters in the car when going down town for the parking meter. And I need a few dollars for tipping at my favorite buffet.

I don’t think they’ve used that slogan since Karl Malden was the spokesman.

I can remember when American Express was not a “credit” card. It was a “charge” card that required payment in full every month. Of course, I can also remember when the average household had only one TV, telephone, and automobile. Yes, I am that old.

A VERY long time ago businesses would have checks available for various banks. A very well off and well known neighbor grabbed a check and paid with it, not noticing that he didn’t have an account at that bank. The bank actually honored the check and then wrote him a letter that if he was going use their checks, they would appreciate him depositing some funds. He did so.
