There are probably lots of writers out there, but not many that even publish, and of those, fewer that make a living at it, must less hit it big. Writers have to write, if not on paper, but wherever they can record their compositions. Hopefully my Facebook Live programs will live on someone’s PC, laptop or phone.
Being an author is a side gig for many people because of a lack of a steady paycheck. You need to hire editors, grammar readers, etc. On top of that, you have to market and promote your book. Even then it may flop. My best advice, write for yourself, join a writers group, read other people’s works so they’ll read yours, then get feedback on if it’s good enough to publish. Do all that before you even consider being a professional or if you can make money doing it. If you decide it’s not something you really want to do, at least you scratched that itch and tried. That’s more than most people have done.
I once met Sister Carol Anne O’Marie, author of the Sister Mary Helen mystery series. She said the money she made from her books posed no threat to her vow of poverty.
If you are a college professor you have it made. You write a book and then make it the required textbook for your classes. It’s where the term, “publish or perish” came from.
I must disagree, given the fact that the LYING, LIBERAL ELITISTS, consider themselves to be members of the “entertainment industry”, I would say that they command “entertainment industry” level salaries, salaries comparable, if not at the “A” list level, salaries that come real close. After all, creative writing skills, lack of intelligence, and the inability to think for themselves, along with the ability to parrot the LIBERAL party line, ARE highly sought after traits, and quite comparable to almost any movie, television, or "music’ star.

Few make a living out of writing. Have a paying job and write on the side.

Cosmo isn’t a writer — he’s a reporter. Not the same thing.

He is good at letters. It’s putting them together into words and then into sentences that are his problem.

If you can dream of becoming a writer, you can also dream of making as much money as you want.

My son is a sports writer for CBS sports and they pay him a pretty shinny coin.
