In the 50’s my Mother would buy lard by the brick for her cooking. Been fighting my waistline ever since. Not entirely her fault, beer drinking and my own unhealthy habits are significant contributors.
If you..or your spouse..is still making pies, God bless! Lard, Crisco, butter: who cares! ? Just enjoy a home baked pie..! ( yes, dearest: I love your pies! )
My grandmother made some of the best pies and then tought her daughter, my mom, and I had pies for a longtime. My mom also had help from a lady that was a world champion pie maker at fast food joint. My wife’s mom made pies also so I had pies galore and enjoyed them over the many years. Alas a good things come to an end, my wife never took the time to learn how to make pies. I am left to buy pies at the store or where I can get one from some place that serves homemade pies. Maybe I should have tried to learn how to make them!

My mum used butter in the crust she made, lard falls way behind in taste!

This is one example our choir director used to remind us to enunciate – so that “Praise the Lord!” did not come out as “Praise the lard!”

I look at my waistline, even though i am dieting, and say “the lard works in mysterious ways”

With Shoe and Cosmo as customers, there is plenty of lard on both sides of the counter at Roz’s place.

Lard with a dab of butter works wonders on a home baked pie.

If she puts squeal in the food, either meat or fat, I don’t want any.
