Designs for the safety razor as we recognize it go back to the 1880s, and Gillette applied for theirs in 1901.
I’m guessing that while Dad is not afraid of cutting himself he is certainly smart enough to avoid it. Part of the art of shaving oneself, doncha know.

When did they start using safety razors? It’s obvious why most guys wore beards back then.

I use a straight razor, gives a great shave and is in the end cheaper than buying over priced blades. I rarely shed any blood.
