Speed Bump is one of the five best comic on this site. Is every one of them a winner? No…but the recommendation to try harder is better reserved for other artists.

It looks like maybe a huge skein of red yarn and a hopscotch site. How do those to go together?

Isn’t it better to just move on instead of griping if you don’t like it?

I meant “…those two…” I’m not griping; I just want to know what Dave Coverly was trying to say.

The joke here is that it is an adult sentiment (“entire body of play” being reciprocal to “entire body of work”) being expressed by a child in reference to a mere playground game. It is not one of the best Speed Bumps, but like Lycka said, judge the entire body of work!

Hey, looks like I picked an interesting moment to check out my own work online for the first time (yeah, I’m a Luddite). Thanks for the kind words, and no worries about the negative ones. Goes with the territory when your work is public. In hindsight, I don’t like everything I come up with, either, and sometimes the ones I’m not crazy about get the most positive reaction. Humor’s a crapshoot. Appreciate the messages and feedback, though, it’s helpful. DC

Oops, and for the record, that’s a dodgeballish thing in her hands (though I do like the idea of an enormous, inexplicable ball of yarn), and HabaneroBuck is correct in the cartoon explanation.
