PBS had a great documentary on Les Paul. They are sure to re-run it and I recommend it highly. The man’s lifelong innovation and creativity are inspiring.
I SPIT on accordions! Ptooey, ptooey! My mother was a big Myron Floren fan, and when I was 11, I had to start taking accordion lessons. At 14, pity for me finally overwhelmed my dad and he let me quit the lessons, but every time we had company over, my mother would make me get it out and “play something for us”. I tried to keep this secret shame from my friends, of course. I mean, accordions were so Lawrence WELK! I could have been a GUITARIST, “money for nothing and the chicks for free”.
I mean, can you imagine asking a teenage girl “you want to hear me play the accordion?” Can you imagine a GROUP of teenage girls squealing “oh, he’s the accordion player, isn’t he dreamy?” No, you can’t, can you? Parents don’t really realize the things they do to their children sometimes.

I hear you Ushindi. Fortunately, I didn’t have to take so much as a piano lesson. But Billy Joel did alright for himself - except for losing Christy.
