If I got an automatic feeder… first, I’d have two 30-pound cats and second, the dogs would figure out a way to knock it off of the clothes dryer and eat the cat food, so I’d also have three 200-pound rottweilers.
Gotta love those pets. We have a counter surfing rescued greyhound. If it isn’t on top of the refrigerator, it’s fair game. He loves avacados, and once took a whole cantalope.
Yeah, the stray cat we took in recently (maybe he’ll also become an avatar someday) will chew through aluminum foil to get at pound cake. He’s not as athletic as the Siamese and Tonkinese, fortunately; and they are not so food-addicted. I’ve trained them never to jump on the counter when we’re looking in that direction. Who says you can’t train cats?
But a counter-surfing greyhound? I just shudder.
Roger, my feeder has an electronic timer; I can set anywhere from 1 to 9 feedings per day and dispense in half-cup increments up to four cups at a time, so my boy doesn’t get overfed. If the bowl does get overfilled, I can just suspend feeding for a while until it gets emptied. It holds a four-month supply of food, and I have a water fountain that holds enough for a week. Finally, I have one of those self-scooping Litter Maids.

This is the reason I have an automatic feeder.

I thought things would be better when we went from openers to pop-top cans. Hah! What a fool. That tiny “Whoosh” sound is like a fire alarm to them.

Runar, you're missing half the fun of caring for a cat!
