I think it’s closer to Russell’s Paradox than to an oxymoron. If your major is Interdepartmental Studies and you take courses in Math, History, and Biology, are you studying outside your major, as opposed to within it? If you are, then you aren’t. If you aren’t, you are.
The one I love is when a “student athlete” takes courses at the local community college during the off-season and summer in order to maintain the 24 credit hours per year necessary to play sports.
